As I went looking through the FSM, I came across the PCV valve as a possible cause of rough idling and stalling. The PCV valve is easy to either clean or replace. Also mentioned as a possible cause: vapor hose damaged or disconnected. Almost every car engine, going way back, will start at a high RPM and slowly drop as it warms up. 500 to 800 is typical for most car engines and will vary from engine to engine. I have a 2015 Kia Soul base model with 276,000 miles. I swapped the engine at 225,000 miles with a used one that had 89,000, so the engine now has about 140,000 miles.
